Lesson 01 — The Hook

What traders are building
with Base MCP

Each use case includes a battle-tested prompt. Copy it, paste it into your MCP-enabled AI, and you have an actionable strategy in 30 seconds.

Learning Objective
Run at least one use-case prompt end-to-end in your AI assistant — from initial query to a queued, approval-ready transaction.
Spot & DeFi Strategies
Use Case 01

Autonomous Portfolio Rebalancing

Give your agent visibility into your full portfolio, then ask it to suggest rebalancing strategies, identify underperforming positions, or compare your allocation against a benchmark. The agent queues swap transactions for your approval — you confirm, it executes.

get_portfolio swap send_calls
Actionable Prompt
"Pull my full portfolio breakdown with current USD values across all Base assets. Then propose a rebalance to 50% USDC, 30% ETH/cbETH, and 20% blue-chip alts (split between AERO, MORPHO, and VIRTUAL). For any position over or under target by more than 5%, calculate the exact swap needed and use send_calls to batch all transactions into a single approval. Before queuing, show me the expected slippage on each leg and the total gas cost in USD."
Use Case 02

Yield Hunting Across Lending Protocols

Scan Morpho and Moonwell for the highest USDC or ETH supply yields on Base. Compare APYs, utilization rates, and liquidity depth across markets — then deposit in a single approval flow via batched calls.

Actionable Prompt
"Compare current USDC supply APYs across all Morpho markets and Moonwell on Base. Filter for markets with at least $5M TVL and utilization between 60–85%. Show me the top 3 opportunities ranked by 7-day effective APY net of token incentive risk. For the best market, construct a batched approve + deposit transaction for $10K USDC and show me the final approval URL."
morpho moonwell yield
Use Case 03

Liquidity Pool Comparison

Discover and compare Uniswap and Aerodrome LP positions. Analyze fee tiers, volume, impermanent loss profiles, and incentive rewards. Find the optimal pool for your token pair and enter with one prompt.

Actionable Prompt
"For the ETH/USDC pair on Base, compare the top 3 Uniswap V3 fee tiers (0.01%, 0.05%, 0.3%) against the equivalent Aerodrome pool. For each, show: current TVL, 7-day volume, fees earned per $1K of liquidity, any AERO/UNI incentive yield, and estimated IL over the past 30 days assuming +/-10% range. Recommend the optimal venue and prepare a $5K deposit transaction in a concentrated range."
uniswap aerodrome LP
Use Case 04

Trade Journaling & P&L Analytics

Pull your full transaction history and let the agent compute realized gains, losses, cost basis, and holding periods. Generate reports, identify patterns in your trading behavior, and refine your strategy over time.

Actionable Prompt
"Pull my last 90 days of transaction history on Base. Categorize each by type: swap, send, LP add/remove, lending, perp open/close. For all swaps, compute realized P&L using FIFO cost basis in USD. Highlight my 5 most profitable and 5 worst trades by USD value. Identify patterns across token type, time of day, holding period, or venue that correlate with positive returns. Output as a structured report."

Use Case 05

x402 Agentic Data Access

Pay for premium market data, AI inference, and analytics APIs on a per-request basis using USDC. Discover services on agentic.market — no API keys, no subscriptions. Your agent shops for its own intelligence.

Actionable Prompt
"Search agentic.market for x402-enabled APIs that provide real-time order book depth and funding rate data for Base DEX perpetuals. Compare the top 3 by: price per request in USDC, p99 latency, coverage of Avantis markets, and uptime SLA. Initiate a test request to the best option for ETH/USDC perp depth on Avantis. Show me the response and the cost."
x402 payments agentic.market
Use Case 06

New Token Discovery & Launch Sniping

Use the Bankr plugin to monitor newly launched tokens on Base. Your agent surfaces fresh listings, analyzes contract metadata, liquidity depth, and early trading patterns — giving you signal before the crowd arrives.

Actionable Prompt
"Use Bankr to scan tokens launched on Base in the last 24h with at least $100K liquidity and 50+ holders. Filter out tokens where the deployer holds more than 5% of supply or LP isn't burned/locked. Rank by 24h volume / liquidity ratio. For the top 5, run a honeypot check via chain_rpc_request to verify transfers work from non-deployer addresses. Present as a summary table."

Use Case 07

Funding Rate Arbitrage

The classic delta-neutral carry trade, automated. Your agent monitors Avantis funding rates across all perp markets, identifies pairs where funding has held a stable positive delta for 5+ days, then constructs the hedge: long spot via Uniswap + short perp on Avantis. You collect funding payments while price exposure is neutralized. The agent watches for delta collapse and alerts you to unwind.

avantis uniswap delta-neutral carry
Actionable Prompt
"Scan all Avantis perp markets for funding rates above 15% APR for 5+ consecutive days. Rank by stability (standard deviation) and 7-day average. For the top opportunity, calculate the all-in cost of a $25K delta-neutral position: long spot via Uniswap + short perp on Avantis at 1x. Include daily funding income, gas, slippage on both legs, and break-even time. Queue both legs in a single send_calls batch and set an alert if funding drops below 8% APR."

Use Case 08

RWA Macro Hedging with Perps

Avantis offers perpetual contracts on forex, commodities, and indices — not just crypto. Use your agent to hedge real-world portfolio exposure: short gold perps when you're overweight precious metals, or go long EUR/USD to hedge dollar-denominated positions. Synthetic exposure to TradFi assets, settled onchain in USDC, with up to 500x leverage.

Actionable Prompt
"My portfolio has $50K notional in gold-correlated assets (PAXG + tokenized gold ETF) and $30K in USD-strength-sensitive positions. On Avantis, calculate position sizes for: (1) a short XAU/USD perp at 5x to fully hedge gold, (2) a long EUR/USD perp at 5x to hedge USD strength. For each: required USDC margin, current funding APR, liquidation price, and maintenance buffer. Open both in one batched tx if total margin is under $15K."

Use Case 09

Loss Rebate Skew Hunting

Avantis' unique zero-fee model means you only pay fees on winning trades — and if you take a position that helps balance market skew, you can earn rebates of up to 20% on your losses. Your agent monitors open interest skew, finds crowded sides, and takes the contrarian position where the rebate offers positive expected value even with a moderate loss rate.

Actionable Prompt
"Query Avantis open interest across all crypto perp markets. Find markets where long OI exceeds short OI by 3:1 or vice versa. For the most skewed market, model EV of the contrarian side at 3x leverage assuming: (a) 20% loss rebate is active, (b) 30-day realized vol, (c) 7-day hold, (d) current rebate eligibility rules. Show EV per $1K position. Recommend a size no larger than 2% of portfolio."

Use Case 10

Cross-Protocol Basis Trading

Identify basis spreads between Avantis perp prices and spot prices on Uniswap or Aerodrome. When the perp trades at a premium to spot, your agent constructs a convergence trade: buy spot + short perp. It monitors the spread in real time and suggests unwinding when the basis narrows — capturing the convergence as profit.

Actionable Prompt
"Compare Avantis ETH-PERP mark price to ETH spot on Uniswap V3 (0.05%) and Aerodrome ETH/USDC. Calculate basis as USD spread and annualized %. If basis exceeds 8% APR, construct a $20K convergence trade: long spot on the cheaper venue + short ETH-PERP at 1x. Show: expected profit if basis converges to zero in 14 days, break-even basis after fees and funding, unwind thresholds. Queue as one batched tx."
avantis uniswap basis

Use Case 11

Liquidation Cascade Surveillance

Your agent uses chain RPC calls and Avantis market data to map open interest concentration by leverage tier and entry price. It identifies liquidation clusters — price levels where a cascade of forced closures would trigger outsized volatility. Use this intelligence to set limit orders at levels where liquidation-driven price dislocations create asymmetric entry opportunities.

Actionable Prompt
"Read Avantis ETH-PERP open interest from contract state via chain_rpc_request. Group positions by leverage tier (5x, 10x, 20x, 50x, 100x+) and bucket by liquidation price in 0.5% increments. Sum notional at each bucket. Identify the largest downside liquidation cluster within 5% of current price and the largest upside cluster. Suggest a $5K limit buy 1% below the downside cluster to catch a cascade dislocation. Show the order params ready to submit."

Lesson 02 — Foundations

What is the Base MCP?

The protocol that gives AI assistants a wallet, a toolkit, and access to the onchain economy.

Learning Objective
Explain the four core concepts behind the Base MCP: the MCP protocol standard, the Base Account wallet, natural language intent resolution, and the x402 payment layer.

MCP Protocol

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that gives AI models structured access to external tools and data sources. Instead of copy-pasting wallet addresses and navigating DEX interfaces, your assistant calls onchain operations through a secure, typed protocol layer.

Base Account

A smart wallet powered by Coinbase. It gives your AI agent a non-custodial wallet with spending limits and policy controls — no private key management required. Every write operation routes through an approval URL that you confirm in your browser.

Natural Language → Onchain

You write prompts like "swap 0.1 ETH for USDC on Uniswap" or "show me the highest yield on Moonwell." The MCP translates that intent into structured tool calls, resolves token addresses, finds optimal routes, and queues the transaction for your approval.

x402 Payment Protocol

An extension to HTTP that adds native payment semantics. Any API can require payment with a single header; any agent can pay with a single request. Your agent buys its own market data, inference compute, and analytics — per-request in USDC, no subscriptions or API keys.

Lesson 03 — Architecture

How it all connects

Four layers between your prompt and the blockchain. Understanding them helps you debug, optimize, and build trust in the system.

Learning Objective
Trace the path of a trade from a natural-language prompt through the MCP server, wallet approval, and final onchain settlement — identifying where human authorization is required.
Layer 1 · Interface
AI Assistant
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client. You type prompts in natural language. The assistant parses intent and selects the right MCP tools.
Layer 2 · Protocol
Base MCP Server
Hosted at mcp.base.org — exposes the dynamic tool catalog: wallet ops, swaps, sends, portfolio reads, and DeFi interactions. Includes the Skills system with pre-built workflows and plugin orchestration for Avantis, Morpho, Uniswap, and more.
Layer 3 · Authorization
Base Account & Approval Flow
Every write operation (send, swap, sign, batch calls) generates an approval URL. You review exact transaction details — recipient, amount, gas — in your browser and confirm before anything touches the chain. Read-only operations execute immediately.
Layer 4 · Settlement
Base L2 & DeFi Protocols
Confirmed transactions settle on Base (Coinbase's L2). Your agent interacts with Uniswap, Morpho, Moonwell, Avantis, Aerodrome, Bankr, and Virtuals — the full Base ecosystem.
Lesson 04 — Core Tools

The tool catalog

The Base MCP dynamically advertises its capabilities. These are the foundational tools your agent uses to read state, move tokens, and interact with protocols.

Learning Objective
Identify which MCP tool to use for a given trading task: reading vs. writing, single-call vs. batched, and when chain RPC inspection is appropriate.
get_wallets
Wallet Discovery
Returns your Base Account address, agent wallets, delegation status, supported chains, and current balances.
get_portfolio
Portfolio Overview
Total value and per-asset breakdown with real-time pricing. The foundation for rebalancing and allocation strategies.
swap
Token Swaps
Swap between any tokens on Base mainnet. Finds optimal routes. Requires your explicit approval before execution.
send
Token Transfers
Send native tokens or any ERC-20. Supports ENS and Basenames for human-readable recipient addresses.
send_calls
Batched Calls (EIP-5792)
Submit a batch of raw contract calls atomically. Essential for multi-step DeFi operations: approve + deposit, or hedge both legs simultaneously.
search_tokens
Token Search
Look up any token by symbol or name. Returns contract addresses, pricing, market data, and metadata.
get_transaction_history
Transaction History
Paginated reverse-chronological history. Filter by type, compute cost basis, and audit past trades for P&L analysis.
sign
Message Signing
Request a user-approved signature for protocol authentication, attestations, or off-chain order submission.
chain_rpc_request
Chain RPC Inspection
Read-only JSON-RPC calls to query onchain state directly: contract storage, block data, event logs, open interest, and liquidation levels.

Lesson 07 — Security & Controls

You stay in control

Sophisticated strategies demand robust guardrails. The Base MCP is designed so your agent operates within boundaries you define.

Learning Objective
Describe the three security mechanisms that protect traders using the Base MCP: the approval flow, spending limits, and the non-custodial wallet model.
🔐

Approval Flow

Every send, swap, sign, or batched contract call generates an approval URL. You review the exact transaction parameters — recipient, amount, gas estimate — in your browser and confirm before anything executes onchain. Read-only calls like portfolio checks execute instantly without approval.

🛡️

Spending Limits

Set per-transaction and daily spending caps on your Base Account. Critical for perp trading: your agent can't accidentally open a 100x position larger than your risk budget. Guardrails are enforced at the wallet layer, not just the AI prompt layer.

🔑

Non-Custodial

Your keys, your wallet. The Base MCP server never stores or has access to your private keys. Smart wallet infrastructure is powered by Coinbase's battle-tested security. You can revoke agent access at any time without moving your funds.

Pick a prompt.
Run it tonight.

Connect the Base MCP, copy one of the 11 prompts above, and put a real strategy on autopilot.
